Vintage bike mechanics have more help from motorcycle museum

THE NATIONAL Motorcycle Museum has welcomed a new archivist for motorbike manuals, helping vintage bike restorers the world over to find technical drawings.

Sarah Bothamley joined the museum to help curate the Bruce Main-Smith Technical Literature library.

The archive comprises technical drawings spanning the history of motorcycle manufacturing.

For 50 years the BMS library has provided bike mechanics with high quality copy sets of manufacturer’s draughts that are out of print.

Ms Bothamley, who joined the museum after completing a masters degree in cultural management at the University of Lincoln, will now be dedicated to expanding the archive’s offering through its web store.

Mechanics can browse copies of over 5000 motorbike technical documents, and order directly from the museum based at Bickenhill.

In addition to workshop manuals, the museum’s archive offers illustrated parts books, annual sales catalogues, and instruction books from the late 1800s up to the 1980s.
