Progression, not style, all that matters, says Flowers

SOLIHULL Moors manager Tim Flowers was unapologetic about the nature of his side’s win in the FA Cup at Barrow last weekend.

Liam Daly’s 52nd-minute header won the all-National League encounter, earning Moors a place in the first round away to Oxford City on Saturday November 9.

And despite his change of system for the trip to Holker Street, Flowers says the decision was vindicated by Solihull’s progression.

“It was probably the least favourable draw away from home,” he said.

“With all due respect to everybody else that was in that draw, Barrow away right now with current form and the way they’re playing is an incredibly tough draw.

“We came here last time, got picked off, got played through and conceded poor goals. We were totally outplayed for 90 minutes.

“When you’re coming away to a team who’ve had seven straight wins, you might need to ride your luck a little bit.

“I’m delighted with the players, delighted with the resilience.

“I have no apologies whatsoever for the way we play football because last season it very nearly got us out of this league.”

After a first half in which the hosts dominated, Gavin Gunning launched a corner kick into the onrushing Daly, who got between a number of players to find the net with his header.

Danny Wright’s shot almost sealed the win but for a goal-line clearance by Patrick Brough, as Solihull managed the game to its conclusion, sealing a fourth-consecutive appearance at the first round stage.

Moors host Maidenhead United in a league encounter on Saturday (3pm), before hosting Rangers under-21s in the last 16 of the Scottish Challenge Cup on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

The mid-week encounter is an all-ticket game, to be purchased from the club website.
