BALLOONS and banners were in order at a Shirley nursing home as one of its residents celebrated a milestone birthday.
Dorothy ‘Dotty’ Stanley celebrated turning 107 with her friends and family from near and far at Longmore nursing home on July 30.
She had a birthday card from The Queen among other presents at her party with fellow Longmore residents and staff.
Dotty was born in Smethick in 1912 went to school in the area and moved to Solihull seven years ago.
She met her husband Leslie when she was just 16 and married him in April 1936 – he sadly died in 1965 at the age of 56.
She has one daughter, Patricia, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Over the years Dotty worked in an advertising business, in the sales department of a brass company and a secretary at Erdington Hall Infants and Junior School.
She has enjoyed sewing, cooking, making cheeses and knitting.
Her secret to a long life is a happy life, a little tot of brandy with her coffee but not drinking to excess or smoking at all.
