A BUDDING astronaut is on cloud nine after being named as the only person from the UK to be selected for a prestigious aviation training programme in America.
Chloe Molland, from Chelmsley Wood, will fly to Florida in June to join 19 other young people to take place in a Delta Air Lines work experience and adventure scheme at the National Flight Academy.
During her time there, the 15-year-old, who hopes to pursue a career as a NASA astronaut, will become at ‘Ambition Experimental Pilot’.
She will live on camp and experience the latest technologies in aeroplane flight simulators, virtual reality and emergency aviation response.
Chloe, who is a pupil at WMG Academy for Young Engineers Solihull, said: “Since the age of six I have wanted to be an astronaut and I would love to experience going to space.
“This opportunity with Delta will help me stand out and will really help me in my future career.
“I came to WMG Academy because I am really interested in engineering and I knew coming here would help me in what I want to do.”
Chloe was one of only 20 students out of 2,000 applicants worldwide to secure a place on the programme, which aims to encourage young people to consider a career in aviation.
The air cadet added: “I want to encourage more women into engineering and show people that it can be done.”
WMG Academy Solihull’s principal, Stewart Tait, said: “We are incredibly proud of Chloe for impressing the adjudicators and for being the only person from the UK to take part in this prestigious scheme.
“We know that Chloe will do WMG Academy and the whole of Solihull and Birmingham proud.
“We’re sure that Chloe will go on to have a high-flying career and reach her ambition of working in aviation and eventually aerospace.”
