INDEPENDENT Knowle Coulncillor Alan Rebeiro has released his manifesto for local elections next month calling for surveillance equipment to catch fly-tippers.

The councillor set out his vision for the borough ahead of polling day on May 2.

We have been bringing you other parties’ manifestos pledges in recent weeks.

Coun Rebeiro stepped down from the Conservative group in July due to clashes over parking charges in Knowle. He has been an Independent Councillor for Knowle since.

Now he is hoping to retain the seat as an Independent councillor after holding it for 12 years under the Conservative flag.

Coun Rebeiro pledges to keep calling on Solihull Council to install surveillance equipment in a bid to catch those who fly-tip in Knowle and Chadwick End.

He also pledges to keep Knowle’s High Street thriving and said: “Our High Street must not see shops replaced by offices and apartments but perhaps a community based centre could be an idea and more cycle parking facilities.

“Pressure on high street retailers is clear to all but it’s important to distinguish between a Village shopping centre as we have in Knowle Village from the town centres like Solihull.

“Our unique and historic Knowle Village shopping experience is defined by distinctive individual traders providing products and services not easily replicated in the town centres and an understated friendly and personal approach to serving shoppers, visiting from near and far. “
