Jaguar Land Rover begins week-long shutdown over Brexit uncertainty

Solihull Editorial 8th Apr, 2019   0

JAGUAR Land Rover is to shut down production across Solihull for a week because of uncertainties around Brexit.

It will affect thousands of staff at the Lode Lane, Castle Bromwich, and Wolverhampton, as well as those working at Halewood in Merseyside, from April 8.

The shutdown is in addition to a scheduled closure the following week for Easter.

The move was agreed in January when the UK was due to leave the EU on March 29.

In January JLR said: “Today we have confirmed this year’s holiday dates to employees across all sites.

“As part of this, we have also confirmed that there will be an additional week of production stand-down April 8 to 12 due to potential Brexit disruption.”

The car maker, which employs just under 39,000 workers, also announced in January it was cutting 4,500 jobs, with the majority coming from its UK workforce.
