Flowers hails magnificent Solihull Moors performance despite draw

BOSS Tim Flowers was more than happy to take a point as Solihull Moors were held to a goalless stalemate by Halifax Town.

Moors could have walked away with all three points on Tuesday night had Danny Wright not missed a first-half penalty but despite this, Flowers’ men still sit just three points off league leaders Salford City after 18 games.

“In football you never disrespect a point, ever,” said Flowers.

“It’s a point gained in terms of we move now up onto 35 points but, in terms of the actual level of performance, I’m delighted.

“That’s as well as we’ve played all season. Going forward, especially in the first half, it was magnificent.

“There’s a myth out there that we’re a long ball side.

“We can play some really good football and, at times in the first half, it really was outstanding.

“But for the grace of god we didn’t score. Obviously we missed a penalty but things like that can happen.

“We aren’t going to win every football match. We’re on a good run, but people don’t half get giddy quick.

“Let’s just remember where we came from and take stock a little bit.”

The draw to Halifax followed last Saturday’s impressive 3-1 victory away at Maidstone United, the club’s 11th win of the National League campaign.

Wright had put Moors ahead after 90 seconds before Adi Yussuf made it 2-0 just five minutes later.

Maidstone reduced their arrears almost immediately as Blair Turgott found space on the edge of the area and let fly with a shot that fizzed past Ryan Boot in the Moors goal, clipping the post on its way in.

Solihull then sealed the three points 15 minutes from the end as Jermaine Hylton capitalised on a defensive mix up to complete the scoring.

Flowers was pleased with how his side played on the counter attack.

“It’s something that every time I put the set plays on the wall, it’s got counter attack written on it,” he added.

“It’s just another string to our bow going forward.”
