CELEBRATIONS were in order at Age UK Solihull as volunteers were honoured for all their hard work.

Around 80 volunteers were joined by Solihull Mayor, Coun Flo Nash, and her Consort, Alan Nash at the charity’s annual lunch party held at The Core.

The Mayor presented longstanding volunteers with certificates, including Victoria Whitehouse, who has volunteered for Age UK Solihull for an impressive 15 years.

Victoria said: “I’ve learned an awful lot working alongside such knowledgeable and helpful staff, and it’s so rewarding to help so many local people.

“I often see people coming into our Community Advice Hubs looking depressed and anxious, and on their way out their body language has completely changed, as if their problem has been lifted, just by talking to someone.”

Volunteer Coordinator, Catherine Gulati, said: “We have over 250 volunteers who help us in so many ways.

“Volunteers visit lonely older people in their homes, drive clients to our classes, assist with benefit forms, help with fundraising, and do many other roles.

“It’s a fabulous contribution to improving the lives of older people.”
