Professional Solihull Moors ease into FA Cup first round

Solihull Editorial 26th Oct, 2018   0

SOLIHULL Moors booked their place in the FA Cup first round with a 2-0 victory at Witton Albion.

Goals in each half from Adi Yussuf and Liam Daly were enough for Moors in a game they largely dominated at Wincham Park on Saturday.

Tim Flowers’ men have been given an away tie to Hitchin Town who won their replay against Leatherhead last night (Wednesday).

Moors boss Flowers was left pleased with the professional performance to avoid a cup upset.

“We prepared properly all week and they’re a good side,” he said.

“They’ve got a good record at home and a good manager who knows the levels.

“He’s managed to good effect in these parts of the world.

“We knew what we were up against, a tough game and I thought we were professional about our business.

“We got caught a couple of times. They were teeing us up for the counter a little bit, dropping away and then winning possession.

“There were some half scrambles and blocks but we got our noses in front which was great, a good finish.

“Second half I thought we were a little bit more comfortable.

“Their lads tired a little bit which you might expect possibly and I thought we played a little bit more on the front foot, created one or two chances and their goalkeeper made some good saves.

“All in all, the bottom line was to get in the hat and make sure we’re not a National League scalp.”

Moors return to National League action on Saturday at Maidstone United.

Flowers’ side, fifth in the standings, are looking to maintain their positive start to the season and keep in touch with leading teams Salford City, Wrexham, Leyton Orient and Harrogate Town.

After 16 league games, Moors are just three points off top spot.
