EDITOR'S COMMENT: Latest report on 'inadequate' care home is disturbing reading

Solihull Editorial 20th Oct, 2018   0

THE Care Quality Commission’s latest damning verdict on Chelmunds Court nursing home in Chelmsley Wood again makes for disturbing reading.

A second report once again echoes the horrifying stories from patients’ relatives and ex-staff we reported on our front page in July – despite management changes and months of monitoring.

The ongoing’ ‘Inadequate’ rating highlights just how badly let down elderly people with dementia have been at the plush home which opened in November.

Runwood Homes insists it is making improvements and the latest CQC report notes some.

Ex-staff and relatives this summer told us of their concerns about long-term future care there, saying it resembles a glitzy modernist hotel rather than a nursing home.

Let’s hope, against the evidence so far, that they are ultimately proved wrong.
