ACORNS Children’s Hospice is calling on Silhillians to share their memories as part of the charity’s 30th birthday celebrations.
Acorns will be holding in a drop-in session in its charity shop in Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre on Friday, September 21 and the charity is on the lookout for local people to share their childhood memories of growing up in the area.
The Acorns Story Box Project, made possible with £34,700 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, will see selected Acorns shops across the Midlands host drop-in sessions to collect stories, some of which will be included in a commemorative exhibition early next year.
Sarah Bowron, Acorns 30th anniversary campaign manager, said: “We have been given a once in the lifetime opportunity to preserve our fascinating history for future generations – and we want you to be involved.
“We want to hear from people, whether you want to share your thoughts and memories of Acorns, or whether you just want to tell us what it was like growing up in and around Chelmsley Wood.
“What did you do? What TV programmess did you watch? What were your favourite sweets? We’re really looking forward to hearing what people say.”
Acorns bright orange Story Box caravan will also be visiting towns and cities across the West Midlands gathering favourite memories of the past 30 years.
