Swimming pools at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre to close for nearly five months

SWIMMING pools at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre are to close for nearly five months for ‘essential maintenance’.

Solihull council, alongside new leisure partner Everyone Active, says the works will ‘protect the long-term future’ of the facility’s three swimming pools.

The project aims to resolve an ongoing issue with the poolside tiling and will carry out a number of other upgrades, the council says.

The council estimates the pools will be closed from November 5 until March next year.

All other areas of the centre will remain open as normal.

Everyone Active and the council are working with swimming clubs and user groups to find alternatives while the pools are out of use.

Everyone Active took on the management of Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and North Solihull Sports Centre in June.

The council’s cabinet member for leisure, tourism and sport, Joe Tildesley, said: “We are really sorry to have to temporarily close the swimming pools at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and apologise for the inconvenience that this will cause.

“The work is unavoidable in order to safeguard the long-term future of the pool.

“Though there is never a good time for such a closure the decision to temporarily close the pool was only taken after exploring every option.

“In order to prevent further disruption Everyone Active and the council will carry out refurbishments as well as the essential maintenance works during the closure and we are working together to ensure that the scheme will be finished as quickly as possible.”

These are the first major maintenance works to be carried out to all the pools since they opened in 2007.

Toni Gaskins, Everyone Active’s area contract manager, said: “The works will result in the pools being out of use for roughly 19 weeks, and are essential to ensure they can continue to cater for the community into the future.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers. Members are able to use other pools managed by Everyone Active, such as North Solihull Sports Centre.”
