Berkswell remain in contention after positive Bank Holiday weekend

Solihull Editorial 30th Aug, 2018   0

BERKSWELL remain hot on the heels of Birmingham League Premier Division leaders Knowle & Dorridge as they picked up two victories over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Dominic Ostler’s side opened the weekend with a narrow four-run success over Moseley.

Batting first, Berkswell were all out for 217 with Ateeq Javid (85) top scoring.

With rain delaying the start of Moseley’s innings, the visitors were set a revised target of 193 from 45 overs.

However, they fell just short on 189-7 to gift Berkswell a vital 20 points.

Berkswell then followed that up with 76-run victory over Smethwick on Monday.

Nick James (82) and Chris Whittock (83) starred with the bat as Berkswell set their Black Country hosts a target of 251-6.

James (3-64), Grant Thornton (3-23) and Javid (2-38) then shared the wickets to send Smethwick packing for 175 inside 30 overs.

Berkswell make the trip to Kenilworth Wardens on Saturday.
