AFC SOLIHULL opened their Midland League Division Three campaign with a 3-2 victory over much-fancied Alcester Town.
Alcester set the tempo early on although Solihull had the better of the chances with Andy Matthews having a goal disallowed for offside and seeing a header fly just over.
Alcester then dominated the majority of the half but it was Solihull who opened the scoring on the break, Elliot Price playing in Jon Hamer to slot home for 1-0.
The lead did not last long, though, and within a few minutes Alcester striker Danny Moy showed a neat turn and finish to equalise just before the half-time whistle.
The second half kicked off and following a change in formation and substitution from Solihull manager Simon James, the home side began to get on the front foot.
Twenty minutes into the half Price turned provider for Solihull again, his cross coming back off the crossbar and being bundled over the line by substitute Ben Whitmarsh.
Solihull couldn’t hold on and Alcester came from behind for a second time with 15 minutes remaining.
A contentious penalty decision gave Daniel Priest the chance to level matters from the spot and he squeezed his effort into the bottom corner, despite a hand from Solihull keeper Mark Fitzsimmons.
With the game heading for a draw Alcester gave the ball away in defence and Hamer was on hand to skip past two players and drill a low effort past the Alcester keeper.
AFC Solihull travel to Leamington Hibernian next in the MFL Challenge Vase on Saturday before a trip to Shipston Excelsior on Bank Holiday Monday in the league.
