EDITOR'S COMMENT: Roll out DNA property marking kits to more streets

Solihull Editorial 17th Jun, 2018   0

CRIME rose by more than 20 per cent last year in Solihull borough, as we have reported.

These first rises in years included a sharp increase in burglary.

It’s therefore welcome that West Midlands Police is issuing DNA property marking kits to hotspots including borough streets, enabling stolen property to be detected from owners’ DNA.

It’s a simple and practical step, while police and crime commissioner David Jamieson has called for more government funding to help reverse police cuts.

Let’s hope the scheme can be rolled out to more streets.

Meanwhile, kits at 50 per cent discount are available by signing up to the force’s community messaging service ‘WMNow’, it says.

How about making that simpler too?
