Solihull College praised for young carers support

Solihull Editorial 23rd May, 2018   0

A DEDICATED college has been recognised for its support to students caring for someone at home.

Sollihul college has received the Quality Standard in Care Support Accreditation for understanding the needs of young adult carers looking to carve themselves a future.

Staff have been working closely with Carers Trust Solihull and YMCA Sutton Coldfield to offer extra support to anyone whose life is affected by caring for someone at home.

The college supports some 40 young adult carers by allowing them to use their phone in class, extra time to complete assignments and assistance or bursaries towards travel and study.

The carers are twice as likely to be not in education, employment or training.

Those who are, are often under considerable pressure and do not have time to seek support and guidance which could make a real difference to their lives and future aspirations.
