Solihull end cyclocross season on a high

CYCLING: SOLIHULL CC ended the cyclocross season on a positive note, finishing fifth from the West Midlands League’s 90 teams.

A-side to the club’s overall performance, 12 riders – all under 18s or younger – finished in the top ten position in their age category.

Pick of the bunch was Max Saunders (pictured), who finished second in the league and multiple individual races. The club hopes to pitch him in with the likes of Oliver Tandy and Ella Tandy in the sport’s national competitions in the coming years.

Elsewhere William Ryan, competing in his first series of national events as an under 14, enjoyed a good season and improved on his finishing position after each round.

He first finished 25th in Derby before rounding off the year with a ninth placed finish at Ipswich. William is profoundly deaf, making his achievements all the more inspirational.

In the Under 18s, Harrison Knight’s best finish at the nationals was eighth at Bradford while his brother Jacob finished 11th at Ipswich.

Both the Knight brothers won races In the Nottingham League and the Central League in Oxford during the season.

Now that the Cyclocross season has finished, riders are now taking part in early season circuit racing and track racing.

A round up of the club’s star performers:

Under 18s – Jacob Knight 3rd, Harrison Knight 4th and Alex Harper 10th

Under 14s – William Ryan 7th, Oliver Tandy 9th

Under 12s – Max Saunders 2nd

Under 12 Girls – Ella Tandy 4th

Under 10s – Teddy Wright 10th

Under 10 Girls – Holly Saunders 3rd

Under 8s – William Garner 7th, Seb Rogers 9th
