Mixed fortunes for mid-table Highgate

Solihull Editorial 12th Oct, 2017   0

FOOTBALL: HIGHGATE ended up on the wrong end of a thrilling five-goal game against Heanor Town on Saturday.

Manager Ashley Pulisciano was left fuming as an injury hit Highgate were forced to start their latest game without Nathan Pulisciano, Trevor Edwards, Isaac Jagroop, Connor Mooney, Luke Rodger and Duane Courtney.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to take the lead when Elliot Reeves took advantage of some sloppy defending to send Greg Marriott through on goal after six minutes.

Gate responded well though when Jim Beddingham fumbled Corey Currithers’ low cross at the foot of his left hand post, forcing a timely double save.

Heanor Town were left off when Reeves mis-hit what should’ve been a simple chance as chances came few and far between for Gate.

Josh Hawker’s 20 yard strike at the start of the second half almost brought Highgate level.

Lei Brown then had a goal disallowed as Gate continued to search for an equalising goal.

But hopes of a win were further dented when a quickly taken free-kick allowed Reeves the freedom to beat Catlow at the keeper’s left hand post.

Despite the set back, Gate rallied. And within a minute George Curry scored from eight yards after Aaron Brown and Adaggio combined on the end of a corner.

A minute later and Gate were level when Rickards failed to clear his line, which allowed Sam Vickers to score from close range.

But celebrations were cut short when Aaron Brown struck high into Gate’s net with seven minutes remaining.
