Solihull Councillor Jeff Potts under investigation after sharing racist tweets

Solihull Editorial 25th Sep, 2017   0

SOLIHULL Councillor Jeff Potts is under investigation after retweeting offensive anti-Muslim rants.

Coun Potts (Knowle) who sits on a religious education committee has now been suspended by his own Conservative group.

The move means he can still attend meetings – but as an independent.

He retweeted comments made by others including: “Deport and repatriate all Muslims from the UK or watch terrorists kill innocent people for generations to come.”

Coun Potts also shared a tweet from another account which read: “Drug related mmm will wait on the verdict wonder if his name will be a good old fashioned British name.”

Formerly a member of the Labour Party, Coun Potts, who represents the well-heeled, leafy ward of Knowle, has been on the Solihull authority since May, 2012. He is vice chairman of the council planning committee and also sits on the licensing committee, airport working party and safer Solihull board.

Councillor Bob Sleigh OBE, Leader of Solihull Council, said: “It has been brought to my attention that Councillor Jeff Potts has been retweeting questionable material.

“In light of the nature of the material I will be taking the matter forward through the Conservative Group.”
