RUGBY UNION: OLD Edwardians crashed to a 44-point defeat against Telford Hornets on Saturday, writes Ben Holt.
Despite earning a penalty in the opening minutes, Old Edwardians could never get going and ended the game without registering any points on the board.
Following Edwardians’ early chance, the ball was cleared – but only as far as the home side’s full back as Telford’s No.14 powered over the line for an unconverted try.
It got worse for the hosts when Telford exploited a gap in play down down the wing, which led to a simple one-two as Telford’s No.11 crossed for a simple try.
Telford registered their third try moments later through their full back before a fourth was registered on the stroke of half time – handing the visitors a 24-0 lead.
The second half started as the first ended when Telford recorded their fifth try, this time converted, to put the game beyond doubt.
A penalty moments later extended Telford’s lead to 34-0 before their flanker used space on the outside to cross for the visitors sixth try.
A battered Old Edwardians side conceded once again towards the end of the game as the home side were left to rue an early missed chance.
