A CHARITABLE couple hosted an afternoon tea party to raise money for Troop Aid.
Founding couple Al and Pam Sutton invited over 60 people to their home for tea, cake and Pimm’s.
Over £850 was raised for the award-winning charity whose valuable work relies fully on donations.
Troop Aid’s key role is to supply troops recovering at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with basic supplies through a specially created ‘grab bag’ containing clothing, footwear, shaving and washing kits, confectionery, videos and books and a mobile phone for injured the troops to contact their loved ones.
The bags are also dispatched to military bases around the world where they are issued to service personnel injured either in combat or training.
Founded in 2006 by former servicemen Albert Sutton, Ray Warren and Derek Joss, Troop Aid has gone from strength to strength and received widespread recognition for its work alongside the Defence Medical Welfare Service.
The charity has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – the group equivalent to an MBE – and boasts HRH Prince Charles as its patron.
The next Troop Aid fundraiser will be the 2017 Troop Aid Ball on October 7.
