GO KARTING: SOLIHULL schoolboy Mark Kimber started his X30 Euro Series Championship recovery with a win in Salbris, France.
After finishing second at round one of the series before being disqualified post-race for a technical non-conformity, a win was needed by the youngster in Salbris – and that’s exactly what the Strawberry Racing driver was able to do.
Kimber had a good Saturday and went off pole for the pre-final, but he struggle for pace and finished fifth.
Winning that Pre-Final was Jordan Brown-Nutley, who up until that point was unbeaten in finals in the series.
He beat Oliver Clarke to the flag, who was the driver of the weekend.
Clarke had to start all three of his heats from last place and made 44 places in the three races to qualify fifth for the pre-final before finishing 2nd, with Brett Ward 3rd.
In the final, Kimber had an average start and was in fourth place, coming under serious pressure from Joey van Splunteren and several other drivers.
But once he had shaken those off, he was able to close the gap to the three leaders and it didn’t take him long to pass Clarke and Ward.
From there he dragged the trio up to race leader Brown-Nutley as the race hit the halfway stage.
Kimber was then leading a few laps later and once there he was able to pull away and take a comfortable race win.
Likewise, Clarke was all on his own in 2nd and van Splunteren eventually ended up on his own in 3rd.
