Chernobyl youngsters set for summer recuperative holiday in Solihull

Solihull Editorial 24th Apr, 2017   0

A GROUP of deserving teenagers from Chernobyl will be welcomed to Solihull this summer for a four week recuperative holiday.

Youngsters aged between 13 and 15 from the Chernobyl Children’s Project (CCP) are in remission from cancer and will travel from Belarus accompanied by a doctor and interpreters.

Each a year a different group of children stay for two weeks with host families and a further two weeks in residential accommodation.

While in the borough, youngsters benefit from fresh air and uncontaminated food – this boosts their damaged immune systems helping them to recover from serious illness.

They will enjoy a holiday packed with multiple trips and fun activities.

Organised by Chernobyl Children’s Project Solihull Group, this year’s hosting marks the 31st anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.

The United Nations have voted to mark the date each year as the International ‘Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day’.

The people of Belarus still suffer the effects of the disaster as cancers and serious illnesses rise.

Babies continue to be born with cancer, disabilities and genetic conditions.

Alongside Recuperative holidays CCP also fund projects in Belarus such as palliative and hospice care and fund holidays for children and young people with disabilities.

The charity has two fundraising meals planned – the first on May 5 at Thai Village in Knowle and the second on June 16 at The Forest Hotel, Dorridge. Both evenings are priced £22 per person.
