James Carson leads the way for Blythe Barracudas at Nuneaton's Team Mercia Spring Open Meet

SWIMMING: TEENAGER James Carson stole the show for Blythe Barracudas at the Team Mercia Spring Open Meet in Nuneaton after coming away with no fewer than seven medals.

The talented 14-year-old came first in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly events at the Pingles Leisure Centre last week. He also won a silver medal in the 200 IM and came third in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events, achieving several Midland District qualifying times.

Joseph Franklin was also in good form for the boys with the 11-year-old taking third place in the 50m and 100m freestyle events.

Josh Golsby-Taylor, 12, gained first place in the 200m freestyle and the 200m IM, while also finishing second place in the 50m breaststroke and the 400m freestyle. He also came third in the 100m and 200m backstroke and the 50m butterfly events.




There were first place finishes for Thomas Beech, 13, in the 50m and 200m breaststroke and 14-year-old Myles Harris triumphed in the 100 breastroke as well as the 50m and 100m freestyle.

In the races for 15-year-olds, Leo Sargins took home gold in the 50m and 200m backstroke and was runner-up in the 100m backstroke, 200m breaststroke and 50m freestyle and team mate Callum Mitchell was first in the 50m butterfly. He also returned home with three silver medals and one bronze.


In the girls section, Hannah May O’ Leary was another swimmer in fine form with the 13-year-old securing first place in the 50m breaststroke and 200m freestyle. She also finished runner-up in the 100m breaststroke and 200m IM as as third in the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

Ten-year-old Darcie Flynn was third in the 100m breastroke and 16-year-old Victoria Long finished second in the 50m and 200m freestyle events.
