MORE than 160 guests enjoyed a pie and mash dinner with former England cricketer and TV personality Phil ‘Tuffers’ Tufnell at Solihull’s St Johns Hotel.

The spin bowler fielded questions from Solihull businesses about his life in sport and entertainment and hosted a quiz with star prize of a signed England cricket shirt, which was won by the St Johns Hotel table.

Tuffers, a left-arm spin bowler, played 42 Tests and 20 One-Day Internationals for England, taking more than 1,000 wickets across all first-class cricket.

He has since appeared on TV shows Strictly Come Dancing, I’m A Celebrity… and A Question of Sport as team captain.

The March 16 event was organised by Solihull BID.

Melanie Palmer, Solihull BID Director, said: “Tuffers was on great form at the St Johns Hotel and we hope the guests enjoyed hearing his lively anecdotes about a whole host of subjects that included everything from life on tour as an England cricketer to the creepy crawlies he had to eat while starring on I’m A Celebrity.”
