SWIMMING: SOLIHULL Swimming Club are celebrating after coming first at the recent Ponds Forge Meet held at the home of the British Championships in Sheffield.

The club travelled north to Pond Forge’s 50m pool at the end of November to take part in Sheffield’s Swimming Club Annual Open meet.

The event gave swimmers a great opportunity to swim in an iconic pool and they excelled by winning 17 gold medals, 22 silver and 20 bronze.

Solihull took no fewer than 51 swimmers, aged between nine and 16, to sheffield and they took part in a total of 291 events, comprising og sprints in every stroke.

Lead by head coach Dean Barguss and coach Matt Kelly, Solihull put in a string of strong performances from the start with the whole squad making an impact as they started racking up points from the first events.

Solihull won points in every category and after being cheered on by a strong vocal support poolside, they amassed 413 points to finish top out of 22 clubs, with the closest team finishing over 150 points behind in second place.
