HOCKEY: Â HAMPTON kept the pace with table-toppers Chesterfield by coming out on top following an 11-goal thriller against Telford.
A strong start to Hampton take a 2-0 lead thanks to two penalty goals from Jon Coleman, but Telford fought back and were level again at half-time thanks to two quickfire goals.
The second half was a back-and-forth affair with both teams pushing for victory.
Telford twice took the lead at 3-2 and 4-3, however goals from Dafydd Bowles, Greg Wade, Luke Wood-Edens and a third from Coleman proved to be enough for Hampton.
Another late Telford goal ensured a nervy couple of minutes, but Hampton saw it through to remain one point off leaders Chesterfield ahead of this weekend’s trip to Hampton.
In the ladies section, a brace from Lauren Boon helped Hampton got top of the table thanks to a comfortable 3-0 victory away at Stratford to maintain their unbeaten run.
From their second penalty corner of the game, skipper Boon gave the visitors the lead after finishing well following a smart exchange with Erin Killaspy.
Killaspy turned scorer shortly afterwards by rounding the keeper and slotting into the net after good work from Tam Lucas.
Hampton made it 3-0 before the break after another Boon goal from a penalty corner and that is the way it stayed following a goalless second period.
