FOOTBALL: EARLSWOOD moved off the bottom of the Midland League Division Two table after recording their first victory since the beginning of September.

Despite being without three key players, including skipper Simon Quigley, Earlswood managed to record a narrow 2-1 home victory over Barnt Green Spartak, which will be a stimulus for new manager Gary Davison when he takes of Saturday’s trip to Sutton United.

The home side were ahead inside the first minute thanks to a Nick Cox goal from a corner but the visitors went in level at the break after being allowed back into the match.

Three minutes into the second half Earlswood got their noses in front again when Justin Best beat two defenders before finding the back of the net and that is how it stayed when the final whistle blew.

A third win of the season pushes Earlswood up three places in the league table ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Sutton United.
