FOOTBALL: NEW SOLIHULL Moors manager Liam McDonald has wasted no time in stamping is mark at Damson Way after completing the double signing of defender Curtis Obeng and midfielder George Carline.
Stretford-born Obeng became McDonald’s first signing after arriving from Altrincham last week and played in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over North Ferribly.
The 27-year-old right-back is a former England U19 international who was once on Manchester City’s books and after a three-year spell with Wrexham, he was snapped up by Premier League Swansea City in 2012.
A spate of loans with the likes of Fleetwood Town, York City, Stevenage and Newport County followed before he was released by the Welsh club in 2015.
Stints at Witton Albion, Maccesfield Town and Altrincham have followed with Obeng now looking to make his mark at The Moors.
McDonald
Highly rated midfielder Carline became McDonald’s second signing after he agreed a deal with former club Hednesford Town.
The 23-year-old has already bagged ten goals from midfield for the Pitmen this season and was rated as one of the hottest properties in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier.
Birmingham-born Carline is a player that McDonald knows very well having previously worked with him at Redditch United and Hednesford.
He started his playing career for Cadbury Athletic, bagging 30 goals in a double-winning season that saw the Bournville outfit lift both the Midland Football League Division One title and the Saturday Vase Trophy.
For the 2014/15 season, Carline joined Redditch in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier to quickly become a regular fixture and be named the Reds’ Player of the Season.
“I’m delighted to sign George as he offers something that Moors need,” said McDonald.
“He’s a progressive player who was rated as one of the best midfielders in tier three and I believe he’s ready to step up to this level.
“George is a big, strong, box-to-box midfielder who scores goals as has been proven by the fact that he’s already in double figures this season.”
