A DISRUPTIVE passenger was forced to leave a plane bound for Birmingham Airport after claims he set fire to his hands with lighter fuel last Thursday (October 27).
Shortly after departing the Canary Islands, the man also allegedly threatened to burn a flight attendant’s face when she asked him to hand over the lighter.
The flight was diverted back to Tenerife and passengers were forced to remain seated for a number of hours until the man was arrested.
A spokesperson for Monarch Airline said: “Monarch can confirm that two passengers were offloaded on board Monarch flight ZB933 from Tenerife to Birmingham due to disruptive behaviour.
“The flight had departed for Birmingham but diverted back to Tenerife airport where a passenger was subsequently arrested upon arrival.
“Monarch takes a zero tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour on board all of our flights and the safety and security of our passengers, crew and aircraft is our absolute priority.”
