A WYTHALL pension firm took part in a 25 hour ping-pong-a-thon to raise money for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

Phoenix Group employees played table tennis non-stop for 25 hours, each signing up for 15 minute slots, to mark the 25th anniversary of the charity.

Joined by representatives from the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and Table Tennis England, the firm raised £1,400 for its chosen charities – Midlands Air Ambulance and London’s Air Ambulance.

The money adds to the firm’s running total of nearly £30,000 raised for the charities since the start of this year.

Former England international table tennis player and three-time woman’s national champion, Helen Lower, joined the marathon effort to play the company’s keenest players and share her ping pong tips.

Lucy Symonds, corporate responsibility manager from Phoenix Group said: “This event was the perfect opportunity to combine well-being with charitable fundraising.

“Staff could take a short break away from their desk to participate in a friendly game of table tennis, whilst raising valuable funds for the cause.”

Thanking staff at the company for their donations, Jon Cottrell, corporate partnerships coordinator from Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, added: “The team at Phoenix Group have always created new, fun and creative ideas to fundraise for us and London’s Air Ambulance, and the ping-pong-a-thon was a great success, raising funds to help fund further lifesaving air ambulance missions.”
