Chelmsley Wood family centre gets the go-ahead

A NEW family centre in Chelmsley Wood – backed by the Renewal Christian Centre- has been given the go-ahead after £490,000 was raised towards the cost of the build.

The purpose-built centre has been designed with the help of local businesses to replace the original building which is no longer fit for use.

The new build has a long-list of facilities on offer for families across the borough – including a coffee shop, stay and play area with pram storage facility, outdoor garden and seating area, and a 1,227 square feet community meeting room.

Solihull Life Opportunities (SoLO) and Signpost Inclusion – who support individuals with learning difficulties – also have plans to make use of the facilities.

Coun Jim Ryan, who has expressed his support for the centre, said: ““It is a magnificent idea for families to be able to get together and talk about issues that concern them, share their stories, experience and knowledge, and participate in the wider community.

“Having a local coffee shop available is all about the community getting together and a sense of well being.

“I wish the new Family Centre well and any support I can give it, I will.”

Sunday services will also be held in the centre when it opens its doors in September.
