Shirley Tae Kwon-Do stars set to take on the world's best in Birmingham

STUDENTS from Shirley Tae Kwon-Do Club will be taking on the world again at this weekend’s World Championships which are bing held at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham.

Over 2,000 of the world’s best competitors from over 20 countries will be taking part in the two-day event, all hoping to become World Champions in their respective divsions.

The club, which is based at Light Hall School, has a long history in producing national, international and world champions over the last 20 years under the expert guidance of instructor and coach Steve Merricks, who himself is a former three-time World Champion.

Merricks said: “The World Championships are a special event as it only comes around every 3 year’s, bringing together the world’s best.




“This time we have 21 students representing the club at a world level, our biggest team ever to enter this event. All of them have trained hard for this event.and are looking forward to the challenge ahead.”
