Beechcroft walking football lose out in final

BEECHCROFT walking football fell just short of silverware last weekend when losing to Barnsley based Leggy Mambos 1-0 in an eight-team-tournament final.

Beechcroft won all their group games without conceding a goal including victories over Walsall, Burton Albion and Highley.

Two further victories in their quarter and semi final ties set up the final against the Barnsley outfit – a team full of ex-professionals who have previously won the national six-a-side championships.

A close affair saw Mambos beat Beechcroft 1-0 to secure the trophy with a last minute strike.

Although disappointed with their runners up spot, the team were proud of their achievement – scoring 12 goals and only conceding one in their six games.

Dave Wright starred with six goals, Kevin Mann converted four and both Andrew Struthers and David Castle picked up a goal a piece.
