A QUINTET of St Alphege Girls’ Choir members have won the ensemble category at the inaugural Kimichi Music Festival.
Held at the Kimichi School in Acocks Green, the girls sang two of their favourite pieces and, despite being low in numbers, managed to beat off stiff competition in the grand final.
James Peyton, judge of the vocal and choral categories, said that the girls’ performance was performed with ease considering the difficult intervals and turning movements involved.
He added: “The tuning of the Amen at the end of Ave Maria was sublime – very impressive.
“My socks were officially blown off, well done to the girls that were part of the winning team.”
St Alphege boasts a strong choral foundation with separate choirs for boys and girls – as well as choirs for ladies and men.
