FIVE teenagers have been released on police bail as detectives continue to investigate the stabbing of a 20-year-old on Tuesday afternoon (15 December).

The local boys – three aged 16, a 17 and an 18-year-old – were arrested on suspicion of wounding following the attack in Whitfields Gate, Hillfield at around 3.15pm.

Emergency services were called to a report of a disorder and found a 20-year-old man with life-threatening stab wounds on arrival.

The victim remains in a stable condition in hospital as detectives continue to appeal for witnesses to contact them.

Detective Chief Inspector Sean Russell said: “We have spoken to a number of people who were in the area at the time and have reviewed CCTV footage. Forensic teams continue to analyse a number of items seized as part of our investigation into this isolated incident.”

If anyone has any information about what happened or has any concerns they should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
