SOLIHULL pair Reuben Esien and Henry Thorneywork were both crowned Midlands champions at last weekend’s regional ESAA Combined Events Championships.
Esien recorded a personal best score of 6,238 points in his first ever Under-0 decathlon, while Thorneywork destroyed the field with a personal best score of 2,896, as well as coring personal best scores in all five of his events in the junior boys pentathlon.
It was a successful weekend all round for Solihull and Small Heath athletes as all five competitors managed to qualify for the National Finals in Bedford later this year.
Ashleigh Bailey finished a close second in the junior girls pentathlon with sister Adina battling through injury to qualify as part of the winning senior girls team.
Anya Bates finished fourth in her first ever heptathlon event with a score of 4,054.
The National Finals will take place in September at Bedford Athletics Stadium.
