Success for Solihull kickboxers at World Championships

COMPETITORS from Solihull dominated this year’s ISKA World Kickboxing Championships by coming away with no fewer than seven medals.

The star of the show in the Algarve, Portugal over the weekend was undoubtedly Zain Qureshi.

The talented 15-year-old from Lyndon School swept all opposition aside in two divisions to become a double World Champion.

He said: “I found preparation for this competition tough as I was having to balance my training with revising for my GCSEs.




“Now that I’ve got those gold medals, I can focus fully on my studies. Becoming World Champion is something I can be proud of forever.”

There was also success for 15-year-old Megan McCarron was first to make the podium as she scooped a Bronze medal after narrowly losing a nail biting semi-final against German opposition.


This was matched by Lode Heath Pupil Kurt Johnson, 15, as he lost out to a tough Ukranian at the semi final stage.

Rob Lack, 18, Kieran Piggott and Lyndon’s Josh Walton (both 14) went one better and took Silver medals in their respective divisions.
