Jack and family kick out to find a cure

Solihull Editorial 16th Apr, 2015 Updated: 21st Oct, 2016   0

LIKE every other four-year-old boy Jack Gauder loves running around, watching Star Wars and kicking a football about.

But running around a football pitch with his friends will soon be a thing of the past as Jack suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a progressive muscle wasting condition.

The Nest nursery pupil was diagnosed with the with the life-limiting condition in October 2013.

Jack is one of a small number of boys with this type of muscular dystrophy in the UK.

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign states that each year approximately 100 boys are born with DMD in the UK.

Scientists are on their way to finding a cure for DMD but without funding Jack could miss out.

So in a bid to find the cure and help others just like Jack his family launched a campaign – Fighting Back For Jack – just over a year ago to raise vital funds and awareness for the Duchenne Research Breakthrough Fund.

Since the campaign started a massive £10,000 has been raised in honour of Jack through a number of events such as running the Birmingham half marathon, and holding a golf day.

Jack’s dad Matthew and mum Emma are holding a charity football match on April 26 and will see fundraisers for Fight Back For Jack go head to head on the pitch with Blue’s legends at Glades Football Club.

There will also be a raffle, bouncy castle, hot food and drinks on offer at the Lugtrout Lane club from 11am.

Entrance costs £2.
