THE next phase of work to ease congestion around Birmingham Airport and the NEC has started.
The M42 roundabout is already being widened to four lanes, causing some disruption.
But on Friday the widening of the A45 Coventry Road eastbound exit slip road to junction six of the motorway began.
It is not due to be completed until November during which time there will be major changes to the road layout, the Highways Agency has said.
Drivers using the A45 eastbound now have to exit at Clock Island for the M42 junction six with traffic directed to Stonebridge Island where it will circle the junction and return on the westbound carriageway for the M42 junction six.
Project manager Debbie Makinde said: “We’re well aware what a busy location this is and especially at this time of year.
“We have liaised thoroughly with the NEC, airport, National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull Council and Birmingham City Council to ensure the work causes as little inconvenience as possible.
“Alternative routes to the key destinations will be clearly signed from the local road and motorway network.”
