A man was found dead in a Solihull street on Friday, 17 July, prompting a police response, though officers say his death is not currently being treated as suspicious.
Police were called to the junction of High Street and Berry Maud Lane at around 5.15am on 17 July following concerns for a person’s welfare.
When officers arrived, a man was confirmed dead at the scene, which lies close to a canal.
In a statement, West Midlands Police confirmed officers had attended the location following the welfare concern call, and that a man was sadly found to have died there. The force said that, at this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner, which is standard procedure whenever a sudden or unexplained death occurs.
The police spokesperson said:
“Officers were called to the junction of High Street and Berry Maud Lane, Solihull, at around 5.15am yesterday following concern for a person’s welfare.
“Sadly, a man was confirmed dead at the scene.
“At this stage, his death is not being treated as suspicious.”
The force has not released further details about the man, including his identity or age, and no cause of death has yet been made public.
News of the death prompted an outpouring of sympathy from local residents on social media, with many expressing condolences for the man’s family and describing the loss as heartbreaking.
With a file being passed to the coroner, further details (including the man’s identity and the eventual cause of death) are likely to emerge only once an inquest is opened, which can take some time.
The Solihull Observer will provide updates as they become available.
