A CAMPAIGN to introduce a mobile Post Office service in Solihull has been launched.
Saqib Bhatti, Meriden and Solihull East MP, has called on Post Office Ltd to consider bringing in the service on a temporary basis to help minimise disruption when the Mell Square branch closes on July 11.
Mr Bhatti has also requested a meeting with Post Office Ltd and will continue to engage with stakeholders to ensure local residents’ concerns are heard.
Mr Bhatti has also launched a survey to guage how this decision has impacted local residents.
He has also written to Post Office Ltd chief executive Neil Brocklehurst to highlight the importance of maintaining accessible postal and banking services within the town centre and called for constructive engagement to identify a suitable long-term solution.
Mr Bhatti said: “The Solihull Town Centre Post Office is an essential service that many residents and businesses rely on every day. Its closure would be a significant loss for our community and would particularly impact older residents, people with limited mobility, small business owners and those without easy access to transport.
“While I acknowledge that alternative arrangements have been proposed, I do not believe they represent a practical replacement for a centrally located, fully functioning Post Office in the heart of Solihull.
“I am keen to work constructively with Post Office Ltd and local partners to find a solution that protects access to these important services. In the meantime, a temporary mobile service could provide valuable support while a permanent location is secured.”
TGJones, which took over 464 WHSmith high street locations in 2025, is preparing to close several UK branches fewer than 12 months after its multimillion-pound takeover.
The company’s Solihull shop in Mell Square, which houses a Post Office and Toys ‘R’ Us, has been confirmed among at least eight sites earmarked for closure on July 11.
