THE POST Office in Mell Square is set to close its doors next month.
TGJones, which took over 464 WHSmith high street locations in 2025, is preparing to close several UK branches fewer than 12 months after its multimillion-pound takeover.
The company’s Solihull shop in Mell Square, which houses a Post Office and Toys ‘R’ Us, has been confirmed among at least eight sites earmarked for closure on July 11.
These closures form part of a restructuring strategy by Modella – the company that acquired the WHSmith brand.
The nearest Post Office will be just over a mile away in Elmdon Heath.
Councillor Karen Grinsell, leader of Solihull Council, said: “We know that the closure of TG Jones and the Post Office in Mell Square will be disappointing for many.
“While the decision on any future Post Office provision sits with Post Office Ltd, we are working to support potential franchise applications by exploring suitable premises within the town centre.”
