BOWLS - Solihull Indoor Bowls Club celebrate after becoming National Top Club champions for first time

SOLIHULL Indoor Bowls Club have become National Top Club champions for the first time in the club’s history.

The club claimed a whitewash 16-0 victory in the final against Egham as Solihull came out on top competing against clubs from all over the country.

The mixed event, which took place in Nottingham, sees both men and women compete together.

And Solihull made a strong start to the final as Emily Kernick won her game 21-9 to give her side an early advantage.

Ryan Prosser then triumphed 21-15 in his singles match to put Solihull into a four-point lead.

Solihull’s mixed pair of Hannah Smith and Tom Holmes won a tight game 15-12 to stretch the club’s lead.




The mixed triple of Izzie White, Mark Burdett and Ben Harris won 20-6 in their game.

And Solihull’s mixed four of Liz Wooding, Lily Adams, Callum Mitchell and Alex Lewis battled to an 18-14 success to secure a clean sweep of victories.


Elsewhere, Solihull’s Wessex team won the league title with victory against Clarrie Dunbar in the final.

Solihull triumphed 76-54 to cap a fine season for the club.

Captain Roger Hill said: “A big well done to everyone for winning the Wessex League.

“Not just to the 16 that played in the final but to all 33 players that have played throughout the season.

“Also a big thank you to all those that came to support us in the final as it’s much appreciated by all the players playing to have people supporting so thank you.”

And Solihull continued their success after also claiming the national David Cornwell under-30 inter-club double rink title.

Club bowler Kernick also won the National 2 Bowl title with Kernick the number one ranked bowler in the world in the women’s category while teammate Prosser finished as runner-up.
