SILHILLIANS are being invited to mark 81 years since the end of the second world war in Europe.

Blossomfield Grange will be throwing a 1940s-themed party to honour the anniversary of VE Day on May 8.

From 2pm there will be 1940s-themed food, live entertainment and plenty of dancing as they come together to embrace the spirit of the era at the Worceter Way home.

Resident Ron Gamsby, 91, said: “VE Day will always be an important day as it marks the end of the war, which I remember well in my younger years.”

VE Day marks the moment Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end.

This news sparked celebrations across the country, with many taking to the streets for spontaneous parties.

Jo Hopkins, customer relations manager at Blossomfield Grange, added: “VE Day holds great significance for so many people, and we’re proud to be marking the 81st anniversary by bringing residents and the local community together.

“This event offers a wonderful opportunity to reawaken nostalgic memories and provides a meaningful way for older people, including those living with dementia, to connect with others while commemorating such a significant moment in history.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming the people of Solihull for what is set to be a day to remember.”
