SOLIHULL’S marathon man will be heading to the capital this weekend dressed as a microphone offering a voice to the victims, and their families, of disgraced breast surgeon Ian Paterson.
Dan Hudson will be taking on the London Marathon in memory of his mum, Gill, a former patient of Paterson who died in 2022, in aid of Marie Curie.
Gill was was one of the 64 women who received treatment from criminal surgeon Ian Paterson and there’s an ongoing coroner’s case at Birmingham Crown Court, during which time he could be released from prison for previous crimes.
Dan says this could be before victims and their families get a chance to be heard.
He added “The microphone is also acting as a reminder that these families have a right to be heard.”
Dan said the microphone will also be used as a symbol to amplify the work Marie Curie do and provided for his late mum.
As well as the serious message Dan is hoping to break the world record for the ‘fastest marathon dressed as a microphone’ on the 26.2-mile race.
He added: “When I was previously running the London Marathon in 2024, I was surrounded by all these people in costumes – a tomato, a fridge, a telephone etc and I figured that would be a fun thing to do next time round.
“When I looked up existing world records – I noticed there was an existing world record for ‘fastest marathon dressed as a microphone’ – and since I work with microphones every day that jumped out at me.
“The existing one to beat is 4hours and 15 minutes, I previously ran Chicago in 3hours and six minutes but that was without a microphone which is going to really add time.
“I also want the microphone to literally amplify the amazing work that Marie Curie do and provided for my late mum in Solihull in 2022, providing care and support for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and their loved ones.”
Dan is hoping to raise £1,000 for Marie Curie in his latest venture.
The former pupil of Tudor Grange High School and co-star of the podcast A Gay And A NonGay, is no stranger to marathons having completed the Paris and London marathons as well as the Shakespeare Marathon in Stratford.
