MERIDEN residents are being invited on a trip down memory lane for Local and Community History.
A Postcard from Meriden will be held at Meriden Library, Arden Cottage, The Green, from May 7 to June 1.
The library held this exhibition last May for the first time, following on from similar successful exhibitions about Balsall Common at the library there.
Library staff are especially keen to hear from anyone who has any old photographs, newspaper articles and other items of interest concerning the village and its history.
This year, library staff are looking for information about shops and businesses that are no longer in the village, in particular the shops in Meriden, and who ran them.
Precious photographs or newspaper articles that can be incorporated into the new exhibition can be scanned in by library staff while you wait.
During the exhibition residents will be invited to share their memories by filling in a postcard in the library to be pegged on a special ‘reminiscence washing line’.
The library will also have a special opening on May 17 from 10am until 1pm, to welcome visitors to the village attending the 105th Cyclists’ Memorial and Celebration of Cycling Service, which will take place at 11am around the Cyclists’ Memorial on the Meriden village green.
As well as sharing newly collected memories and local history with the community, the library will also be preserving them for posterity by adding copies to the Solihull Heritage and Local Studies Service, at The Core library in Solihull town centre.
For more or to talk to the library about sharing photographs, objects or memories contact staff on 01676 522717 or by email at [email protected].
Meriden Library’s opening hours are Mondays 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am to 12.30pm.
