BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees remain firmly in the promotion mix following a bonus point 31-24 victory at Bournville II.
Tries from Will Heath, Joe Rogers, Liam Dunne, Kody Turner and James Widdop sealed victory for the Bees at Avery Fields.
The result means Solihull sit fourth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table, three points behind Berkswell and Balsall who sit second in the standings.
Solihull made the perfect start when Heath collected Turner’s pass and crashed over the line before converting his own try with the game three minutes old.
And the Bees struck again when the returning Widdop floated a pass to Aron Bowker-Sayce who ran 20-yards with the ball before finding Heath.
Heath drove deep into the Bournville 22 and offloaded to Rogers who finished off a flowing team move to put Solihull into a 12-point lead.
The home side responded soon with a try from a quick tap penalty and scored a converted try from another penalty soon after to level the game.
However, the Bees reclaimed the lead two minutes before the interval as veteran Dunne crashed over and Heath converted to send Solihull into the break with a seven-point lead.
Bournville received a yellow card early in the second half and Turner took full advantage from the resulting penalty as he cut in from the wing and sprinted 35-yards to the line from Widdop’s pass.
The try marked Solihull’s bonus point try as Heath converted to put the Bees 12 points ahead.
And the Bees scored again from kick-off as Widdop won a 25-yard foot race to score in the corner after Rogers and Bowker-Sayce combined well.
Bournville scored two late tries after Turner saw yellow to reduce the deficit to seven points while Alfie Styles forced a knock-on with a try-saving tackle at the death to secure the points for Solihull.
Birmingham and Solihull Bees are next in action against Upton-upon-Severn RFC on Saturday, April 18 with kick-off at 3pm at Portway in the club’s final home game of the season.
