A FUNDRAISING drive has been launched to pay for a new mower.

Olton Tavern Bowling Club is aiming to raise £5,000 to help fund a modern mower for the lawns at the Lode Lane club.

Members came together for the first fundraising event at Solihull Indoor Bowling Club where £200 was raised during a light-hearted round robin competition and a raffle was held.

The club said: “Having modern efficient machinery will ensure that we can continue to provide an excellent playing surface for bowlers of all ages and abilities and will secure the long term future of the club which has been in existence for 75 years.

“We are fortunate in having secured a grant from Birmingham Airport Community Fund for part of the cost, but it is dependent upon us raising the balance over the next two years.”

The club is calling on Solihull’s businesses, and residents, to dig deep to help it secure the sought-after equipment.

It added: “As an individual donor, making a pledge here today allows you to support a key community group within the local area which is offering a valuable outlet for community well-being. You will help us to realise our ambitions of growing and improving our club, enabling us to introduce crown green bowls to a wider audience.

“As a business donor, there are a number of benefits and opportunities. Donating today affords you the chance to promote your support of our club to your own prospective customers, thereby enhancing your own business profile.”
