Coming to gether to celebrate Iftar

FAMILIES and staff came together to celebrate Ramadan and raise funds for charity.

Solihull Sixth Form College hosted a community Iftar where those celebrating Ramadan to break their fast, while also offering members of the College community of all faiths or no faith to come together and get a better awareness of Ramadan.

Among the special guests in attendance was Mayor of Solihull Councillor Annette MacKenzie and members of the Solihull Faith Forum.

Iftar began with speeches in the College lecture theatre as College learners spoke about what Ramadan means to them then guests heard the Call for Prayer before fast was broken with food in the form of chicken and vegetarian dishes, samosas, cakes, dates and other fruits.

The Islamic Society chose to raise funds for they Human Appeal, which works in 16 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East and aims to improve the long-term resilience of countries in crisis, so that they can support themselves independently and with dignity.

The event raised £601 for the charity.




Anisa Lokat-Fanning, associate assistant principal, said: “This is the fourth year we have held a Community Iftar in College and the event was again very well supported.

“It’s fantastic to see our community coming together for a beautiful celebration for Ramadan.”
